John Hanchulak, Advertising Curmudgeon

For almost 40 years, John has worked in the related fields of design and advertising, providing creative services for a number of well-known companies such as General Electric, Owens-Corning, Ford, American Greetings, US Steel, and Goodyear International, to name a few.

He also has an extensive background in sales promotion, consumer packaging and branding, having worked on projects for Genie, Audio-Technica, TDK Electronics, and Lexar Media, and most recently, Smith Dairy, a regional dairy products company.

John is a 1970 graduate of Carnegie Mellon University with a BFA in Design.

He is president and CEO of Smiley Hanchulak Marketing Communications in Akron, Ohio, an advertising, marketing and public relations firm, founded in 1978.

I think that I have completed the metamorphosis from regular advertising guy to advertising curmudgeon. This revelation hit me a few months ago, when I started sounding like Lewis Black when I was asked about anything related to the business itself.

I like Lewis Black. He’s a witty, thought-provoking, irreverent comedian. But a little Lewis goes a long way. Same with me. I have realized that I expound more now than ever. Is this good? I don’t know. Ah, but is it blog material! Yes! So here goes:
